Middle School Distinctives
Academic Foundation
Our high school–preparatory middle school program emphasizes strong academics through meaningful student-teacher relationships in a flexible, nature-based learning environment. Students develop critical thinking skills through discussions, peer reviews, collaborative projects, writing assignments, and public speaking opportunities.
Treehouse offers an academically challenging environment and has Reading & Math Specialist . Treehouse provides extra instructional support in our small group Special Education classes. Seventh and eighth grade students may also enroll in online courses through the North Carolina Virtual Public School (NCVPS), with the added benefit of guidance and support from a live, on-campus teacher.
Creative Woodworking
Woodworking introduces students to measurement, planning, and safe tool use in a fully equipped shop with a variety of battery-powered and corded tools. Students use drills, clamps, measuring tapes, nails, and screws to create functional projects while building confidence and practical skills.
Farm to Table Cooking
Students learn practical cooking and food preparation skills using ingredients grown and raised on campus, including fruits from over 40 fruit-bearing trees, fresh eggs, and seasonal vegetables. Using a fully equipped kitchen, students practice baking bread, slow cooking, dehydrating, air frying, mixing, and canning while exploring nutrition, food preservation, and the journey from farm to table.
Drama and Performance
At Treehouse, middle school leadership is rooted in creative expression. Through drama productions, improv, and performance-based projects, students develop confidence, teamwork, and leadership skills in a supportive, small-school environment.
